This project by R.B. Baker Construction for Chatham County, GA, involved widening and deepening approximately 3 miles of the Pipemakers Canal, and is a prime example of our ability to perform work within the most environmentally sensitive areas. This work was performed to help alleviate flooding in west Chatham County. The waterway winds from Effingham County to the Savannah River, and is designed to collect storm water runoff from Pooler, Garden City, Bloomingdale and the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport and route it into the river. Work of this type requires great planning and execution to allow for tidal changes during the course of the work, as well as mitigating any potential for environmental impact.
